This series of work focuses on animals that are brutalized in one way or another for the profit of humanity. The abuse and exploitation of animals has driven many of the world’s species to near extinction and beyond. With this series it is my hope to open the minds and hearts of the viewers to see beyond the frivolous and unjustified needs of the population of poachers and practitioners, and into the needs of the voiceless animals who desperately need change.
With practices popular in Traditional Chinese Medicine, trophy poaching in Africa and North America, and the hunting of “bushmeat”, many of the world’s creatures are in danger. This series calls for hope, change, awareness and empathy.
The use of technology such as three-dimensional printing, in both the medical and scientific fields, has gone beyond many expectations creating new forms of biotechnology. Prosthetics are now created with such accuracy that form and function are no longer and issue for the recipient. Through this series I explore the use of three-dimensional printing. Via the printed form I call attention to the appendages of the animal that draw poachers to them.
