"For almost a decade Eileen Sackman has been creating works that call attention to the plight of endangered species. In this exhibit, she will be showing a new series of drawings, artist books, and ceramic sculptures that highlight species who have met extinction at the hands of humanity. It is her intention to bring awareness to these forgotten beings and create a warning to humanity to not repeat the past with endangered species who are currently struggling to survive." |

For the second year in a row the Charlie Cummings Gallery has invited me to participate in Cup the Intimate Object XIV, long with so many other talented ceramicists.
Cognizance explores the versatility of clay through sculptural and functional forms fired in a traditional anagama kiln. The anthropomorphizing of the African Black Rhinoceros and the African Elephant utilizes humor to pull the viewers minds and hearts open, connecting them to these majestic beings.
The awareness of the animal's state of endangerment is urgent for these species to survive. It is through this exhibition that awareness, connections and actions can start.
